Trace Construction Group transformed a former street-level fast food unit at London’s buzzing Cowcross Street into En Route Farringdon, a modern takeaway café serving breakfast, coffee and Mediterranean-inspired food. Our team managed the complete conversion, creating a practical hospitality space designed around fast service, customer flow and day-to-day operational efficiency.
The project involved a full commercial refurbishment, including internal alterations, mechanical and electrical works, the installation of modern café equipment, bespoke counters, food display areas and new interior finishes. The previously underused basement utilities area was also converted into a dedicated seating space, increasing the café’s usable customer capacity.
The completed interior combines exposed brickwork, warm timber-toned counters, neutral finishes and planting to create a clean, contemporary environment. The layout and finishes were selected to reflect En Route’s modern brand while remaining durable and suitable for a busy central London hospitality setting.
The ground-floor layout was planned to manage customer movement efficiently during busy service periods. Ordering, food display, preparation and collection areas were positioned to allow customers to move through the café quickly, while the new downstairs seating area provides an alternative for those choosing to dine in.
The completed project has converted a conventional fast food unit into a modern café that supports both high-volume takeaway service and seated dining. All works were coordinated and delivered in line with the relevant building, health and safety, and operational requirements, providing the client with a compliant, functional and professionally finished hospitality space.
